iMovie offers users the option to import presentations and images from PowerPoint and other presentation software packages. This guide will demonstrate how to export a video of a presentation from PowerPoint and import the presentation into iMovie so that it can be edited and shared across a variety of online platforms.

Exporting Video from PowerPoint

Step 1: Open a PowerPoint presentation.

Step 2:  FIle in the menu bar.

Step 3: Click Export.

  • In previous versions of PowerPoint, you may need to Save As and save your file in a movie format.

Step 4: Select "Create a video."

Step 5: Select the resolution of the video and the frame duration.

  • Full HD (1080p) is the ideal resolution for most platforms. If streaming bandwidth is an issue a lower resolution could be a potential option.
  • If the presentation contains pre recorded narration and timings make sure that option to Use Recorded Timings and Narration is selected
  • The duration spent on each slide can be specified here. This can also be changed later in iMovie. It is a good idea to specify the intended duration of each slide at this point and then tweak this later.

Step 6: Click Create Video and select where the video is to be saved.

Importing your presentation into iMovie

Step 1: Open iMovie. It's a purple star-shaped app with a white movie camera icon.

Step 2: Click the Media tab. It's at the top of the window.

Step 3: Click the Large "Import Media" button.

Step 4: Select the location of your presentation and import the file. You can also drag and drop your files directly into iMovie.

The video of the presentation is now on the imported in your projects timeline.
