If you can't find the item you're looking for in the stacks, here are a few things to consider:

1. Make sure that the location of the book matches where you are looking. For instance, a Ref book with a call number starting with B would be on the second floor while a Stacks book with a call number of B would be on the third floor.
2. The item may have been recently returned and is on its way back to the shelves. There are sorting rooms for these items. At McHenry, the sorting rooms are located on the third and fourth floors near the elevators in a corridor where the copiers are. At Science & Engineering, the sorting room is located on the Middle Level directly to the left of the Circulation Desk. Try looking on the shelves there or on any book trucks that may be near there.
3. If the item still can't be found, please go to the Circulation Desk and request that a search be made by our staff. Once the item is located, we can contact you.
