Affordable Course Materials & Open Educational Resources

Request a Purchase

  • Request that we purchase an electronic version of your course materials using our form and note that the text is used in a class.
  • The library makes every effort to license DRM-free, unlimited user eBooks, which can work well for classroom use by multiple students.
  • However, many existing textbooks are simply unavailable for libraries to license, often because textbook publishers have built their profit models around selling e-textbooks directly to students.
  • The likelihood that we’ll be able to license your course materials as eBooks will increase if the materials that you select are from a University Press or trade publication. Examples include Cambridge University Press, Duke University Press, Oxford University Press, Luminos, and others.

If we can’t purchase an eBook for your course, we can still purchase one copy of a physical book for students to check out within the library. You can also add personal or department copies to your reserves list. You determine the checkout period: two hours, 24 hours, or 72 hours.

Please consult with the library before selecting a book for the best chance of finding materials that we can purchase for classroom use.

Use Existing Library Resources

If you find existing library resources in the library catalog that you’d like to use for your class, please contact the library. We’ll ensure that our license will accommodate multiple users at once so that all of your students can access the text.

The library also offers streaming media for course use.
