Affordable Course Materials & Open Educational Resources

Benefits of Sharing Materials

  • Have a national impact by helping instructors at other institutions find high-quality materials
  • Contribute to a community of practice and create pedagogical change beyond UCSC
  • Demonstrate innovation and impact for your own portfolio or promotion purposes. After sharing your OER you can collect information about how many times your resources were viewed, downloaded, or adopted

Library Support

There are numerous repositories for sharing materials and several factors about copyright and format to weigh. Librarians collaborate with instructors to publish and share OER by:

  • Improving accessibility and format options before publication
  • Identifying copyright and licensing considerations if third-party material is used
  • Selecting a Creative Commons license that matches how the instructor would like others to use the resource
  • Finding an OER repository and assigning metadata that makes the OER widely discoverable
  • Helping investigate print on demand, graphic design, and copyediting services
