Collection Acquisition Strategies

Through a variety of collection strategies, the UC Santa Cruz Library makes available (for lease or purchase) materials in multiple formats to support the University's research and instructional programs. The primary emphasis for the library's circulating collection is on making the materials needed for research and instruction available for use by our primary user community (faculty, students, and staff) at their moment of need.

The University Library uses the following methods to make materials available to our primary clientele:

  • Demand Driven Acquisitions
  • California Digital Library (CDL) systemwide licensing
  • "Wishlist" Purchases
  • Direct purchase requests from faculty, students, and staff

Gifts/Item Donation

  • The University Library welcomes gifts of archival or rare material for Special Collections & Archives. See the library gifts page for more information.
  • The library no longer accepts donations for the regular, circulating collections.
