Alerts in Google Scholar

Google Scholar allows you to set up alerts for new results matching your search.


Receive email updates for a specific search:

  • Do a search on your topic in Google Scholar
  • Select  Create Alert  to the left of search results create alert icon
  • Enter your email address and select number of results
  • Select Create alert button 

Be notified when a particular article is cited:

  • Search and locate a specific article in Google Scholar
  • Select Cited by below the appropriate article
  • Select  Create Alert  to the left of search results create alert icon
  • Enter your email address and select number of results
  • Select Create alert button 

Google Scholar Library

Google Scholar Library allows you to save and organise your own collection of articles within Scholar.

  • Click 'save' below a search result to add it to your library. 
  • Click 'my library' to access your saved articles 
  • Can be linked to your Google Scholar Profile

Citations and More

  • Google Scholar provides referencing help for the MLA, APA and Chicago styles. Click on the Cite icon " google_scholar_cite_icon" beneath a search result and select a style.
  • You can see additional information about your search results by selecting the More icon  " google scholar more icon " .

Export Citations

To export citations from Google Scholar:

  • Go to Scholar Settings (located in top right corner)
  • Select your Bibliographic manager from the drop-down menu (e.g. EndNote)
  • Save changes

Search results will now display a link to import into your chosen option.
