Cruzcat Migration FAQ

How can I find materials in the library during the migration? Will I be able to search for call numbers?

Even though the Cruzcat catalog will be temporarily unavailable, you can still find call numbers for UCSC library materials in the Melvyl catalog, and then look for those items on the shelf in the library. The Melvyl catalog is a library catalog for the entire UC system. You can search for everything as you would in Cruzcat, but during the migration, it will not have the real-time status of an item, meaning whether it is checked out or not checked out. We have staff and students who can help you find materials on the migration day.

Will I be able to access electronic books in Cruzcat?

E-books will not be available directly from links in the Cruzcat catalog during the migration, but there are other ways to access them. Links to UCSC e-books in the Melvyl catalog will work form on campus, and also from off campus if you are successfully signed in through Off-Campus Access (OCA).If you have a direct link to the e-book from a bookmark on a publisher’s site, and you are successfully logged in through Off-Campus Access (OCA), then you should be able to access the e-book.

Will the online journals list be accessible?

Yes, the online journals list will be available.

Will UC-eLinks work during the migration?

UC-eLinks will not be available to check Cruzcat holdings, or to place new Interlibrary Loan request. UC-eLinks will be available to check the Melvy catalog for UCSC and non-UCSC library holdings information.
