Will I be able to checkout books and items on Reserve?

Yes, UCSC-owned books and materials on Reserve will be available for checkout.

What should I bring with me to the library to checkout items?

Bring a valid photo ID and a UCSC ID that states your current enrollment or employment.  If you are a courtesy borrower, we will use the expiration date listed on your library issued card to verify your account and a photo ID.

What if I only have a non-UCSC photo ID with me?

The library would need proof of current UCSC enrollment/employment or courtesy affiliation.  This may be obtained through MyUCSC student portal or Infoview for faculty and staff employment verification.  If you are a courtesy borrower, you MUST have a library issued card with you in order to checkout anything.

Will I be able to checkout laptops (both libraries), media items (Media Center at McHenry Library only), or games (Science & Engineering Library only)?

Yes, all media items and equipment will be available for checkout at both libraries.

What if I know my book is due on July 25th and I can’t renew it online?

Please contact one of the Circulation Desks (McHenry Library: 831-459-5185 or Science & Engineering Library: 831-459-5300), and we will help you.

Will I be able to return my books?

Yes, UCSC and Interlibrary Loan materials can be returned normally.

Will I be able to access my UCSC library account online?

No, you will not be able to access your UCSC library account online during the migration. As soon as the migration is complete, you will have access to your UCSC library account online.

Will I be able to renew my UCSC books?

Yes, in person or by phone (McHenry Library, 831-459-5185, or the Science & Engineering Library, 831-459-5300). You will not be able to renew online until after the migration is complete.

Will I be able to activate my library account or obtain a library card?

Yes, but these will be processed by staff after the migration. For UCSC-affiliated account activation, bring your UCSC-issued ID card. If your UCSC-issued ID card does not have a photo, please also bring a photo ID. To obtain any other library card, please bring a photo ID and any other necessary proof of affiliation or payment.
