Create an Omeka.net Site

omeka.net Create a free Omeka site with Omeka.net

  1. Register for a free account using your email address
  2. Decide on a subdomain name. The subdomain will be in your site URL: [subdomain].omeka.net. You will not be able to change your subdomain later, so choose wisely!
  3. Give your Omeka site a title. You can change your site title at any time.

Install Plugins
  1. Select "Plugins" from the top menu
  2. Click green "Install" button to install additional plugins.

Recommended Plugins:

  • Exhibit Builder
  • PDF Embed
  • Simple Pages

Appearance: Theme & Navigation

You can change the appearance of your Omeka site using options in the "Appearance" screen.

 

Themes:

Themes determine the color scheme and layout of your Omeka site. There are several different themes available.

 

Navigation:

Navigation settings change the links that appear on your Omeka site's main menu. You can add or remove these menu items as needed.

 

Settings:

You can change the maximum size of your images in the settings section. However, you will probably want to leave the default settings.

 

Configure Your Theme

Configuration options will vary a bit by which theme you choose.

Options:

  • Add a "Logo File." This image will appear at the top of all of your site pages.
  • Footer text: will be displayed at the bottom of all of your site pages
  • Item File Gallery
  • Navigation style: choose between a menu bar across the top of your pages or a sidebar

Build Your Homepage

You can add text to your site's homepage and change the items displayed on your homepage on your Theme Configuration Page.
