The Library's subject specialists plan the development of the collection, administer the collection budget and offer specialized reference and bibliographic assistance. This staff selects every title added to the collection; anyone wishing the Library to acquire new material should submit requests to the appropriate selector. Relevance of the title to UCSC programs of teaching and research is the primary criterion for selection.
You are invited to consult a subject selector whenever you have questions relating to the Library's holdings or the bibliography of, and research strategies in, specific disciplines.
Group instruction for faculty, graduate students and upper-division classes is also offered upon request. In the past sessions have treated such subjects as English and American Literature, Anthropology, Community Studies, Psychology, Education, Latin American Studies, Music, Sociology, Feminist Studies, Astronomy, Chemistry, and Earth Sciences. To arrange a seminar in a given subject, please use the Library Instruction Request Form.
